PRESS RELEASE: Oxford Eid Extravaganza Returns Bigger And Better Than Ever Before
Oxford, UK – 5th March 2019 – Oxford’s largest community event is coming back and promises to be even bigger and better this year. The Oxford Eid Extravaganza is celebrating its 5th year anniversary this year and will mark this important milestone by inviting all the different communities that reside in Oxford to celebrate together.
Date: Sunday 9th June 2019
Venue: Cheney School, Headington, Oxford
In each year since its launch as a community cohesion project, the Oxford Eid Extravaganza has attracted a growing diversity of attendees reflecting Oxford City’s international status, vibrant mix of communities and multi-cultural dynamism.
Last year’s Extravaganza with over 5,000 people in attendance, was celebrated as part of the ‘Great Get Together’ series of events which took place across the UK in memory of the late Jo Cox MP and the participation of multi-ethnic families, community groups and a wide range of businesses and organisations ensured the event’s main goal and theme of ‘Bringing Communities Together’ was successfully met.
The Men’s Health Football Tournament with teams comprised of 22 different nationalities competing was a thrilling showcase event at the 2018 event and now this year’s Oxford Eid Extravaganza will be hosting another exciting Football Tournament in partnership with Oxford’s recently launched Diversity Football League.
Discussing the key principles underpinning the Oxford Eid Extravaganza, Hassan Sabrie from the Diversity Football League said:
“This annual event provides us with the opportunity to come together and enjoy Oxford’s rich multicultural and multi-ethnic diversity. It’s an occasion where we can acknowledge and celebrate how the many different communities – including those groups who are often excluded and marginalised for a variety of reasons – are all making an important contribution to Oxford City.”
This year, the Oxford Eid Extravaganza event coincides with a few other notable events, namely Bike Week (8-16 June), Oxford Green Week (8-16 June) and National Growing for Wellbeing Week (3-9 June). It only then makes sense that this year, the Oxford Eid Extravaganza team have decided to apply the key theme of “Protecting the Environment” throughout the whole event.
Local and national companies that share these values can both raise their public profile and help raise environmental awareness by sponsoring or partnering with the Oxford Eid Extravaganza. As the theme of ‘Protecting the Environment’ will be applied throughout the event, attendees will be encouraged to arrive by bike or public transport; water stations will be available on site to discourage use of single-use plastic disposable bottles which creates a lot of waste; food stallholders will be encouraged to use disposable containers rather than the polystyrene containers that contribute to landfill; and there will be a lot of fun games and activities for all ages of the family so that attendees can learn how to protect our planet.
